Ok, so I've been a bit lax. I haven't posted in awhile, and I haven't even really mentioned what I've been eating. Everyone who knows me also knows that I love eating. England is a treat. They have what is simply my favorite food over here. I want to get a recipe that works and make it back home. And what is that food, praytell? It is simply a:
FLAPJACK!
And now you are wondering what on earth is a flapjack? The answer is simple. Here is a picture for those visual learners:, er at the top :P. Anywhos, it is about the size of a rice crispy treat. It is softer though, not exactly crumbly, very moist and sorta sticks together. I discovered them randomly, Roxie mentioning in passing, o flapjacks are very good, you should try one. I decided to, and voila, I'm hooked. Think of oats, drenched in just enough honey to make them stick together nicely, but not enough to be gooey. Then there are various and a sundry dried fruits, seeds, nuts inside it, depending on the flavor you purchased. If that wasn't enough, there is also the possibility of their being a further topping on top of the flapjack, like frosting, or yogurt, or nuts/chocolate drizzle, or combinations....you get the idea. They are my favorite part of food in the UK so far. More on that laters.
And now for a food-oriented horse: the practice of giving alcohol to horses is quite old. For example, Guiness is a popular drink, both here, and for equines. It's used to relax horses. A popular racehorse to be treated with Guiness was the mare Dark Mirage, a champion, and a pint (hehe) sized horse. She was very small for a Thoroughbred, but was a tryer. That's all for now.
Cheers,
The Flying Sunshine
what's a "tryer"? nice pun btw!
ReplyDeleteMy understanding of the term, is a horse that always gives an honest effort, no matter what their placing is in the race. They don't take it easy or loaf, always giving their best. Some horses when reaching the lead go slower because there is nothing in front of them or they are so competitive they are "waiting" for another horse to get to them, (Seabiscuit, in particular like manhandling other horses, and outfight them nearing the finish.) Another tryer would be Secretariat, and this term is associated with good connotations. (31 length Belmont win anyone?) Youtube it, he's quite magnificent.
ReplyDeletehehehe home made flapjacks are better :) should try and con someone some time.... chocolate chip was my favorite.... have you been eating any chips n curry sauce in my memory???
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to try making flapjacks at some point. They are too good only to eat here. No curry places yet, need to investigate.
