Or I shall Taunt you a second time.....

The first two were taken at Warwick Castle, the third was in London. No, I forget what it's called.
For the second post of what happened while my parents were here. Sunday we went back to the botanical gardens, and had a lazy recoup/laundry day. Monday, we got to go to a castle! I've loved fantasy books for years, so this was pretty cool. Warwick Castle is not too far away by train from Birmingham, and my parents and I explored it the entire day. It was well done, with my favorite parts being the falcon show and my second favorite was climbing up to the tallest tower in the castle and then back down. The warning before this was: "if you are claustraphobic or fear heights, you should probably not participate." Well I have both, and I did it anyway, if for no other reason than to be mule-headed and stubborn.

On Tuesday, the three of us went to London and took a tour around London. I was sicker than a dog at that time, having contracted a cold. It was very big, and I don't remember it with as much fondness as some of you world travelers would upon reading this. We did go to the Texas Embassy Steakhouse, right off Trafalgar Square, however. (What, I can't help that I LOVE steak and was really feeling the need for some hearty nourishment.) Wednesday was the British Museum, too bad my cold was finally there, or I would have liked it more. I think it's neat that you can see all those art pieces in one place. The mummies were only ok. I want to rebury them though, and I know that's not a popular idea, just seems disrespectful to me to have them out. The day was topped off with a ballet at the National Opera. (My mother had never been and it turned out great.) Back to Birmingham we went, and then I said good bye, and off the went on Thursday. Overall it was a great visit.

Cheers,
The Flying Sunshine

  1. Yay Warwick Castle! I remember that place... still not as cool as some of the ones that didn't, as my Crazy Welsh Historian/Professor put it, "get turned into Disneyland".

As to the mummies, they've already been descrated as far as their culture would have been concerned by the removal of their amulets. The only good thing is that they weren't used to fuel trains or ground up for folk medicine like so many others have been over the centuries.

  2. Still though, I felt old, and tired when I looked at them. It didn't seem quite "right". Some of the other stuff in there was really cool though. Just not into human remains I guess.
